1. Clarification on your most important goals

It’s incredibly helpful to gain clarity, especially around your most important life aspirations, dreams and goals. Taking the time to think about what we really want is so important. A coach really helps with this.

How to Life Coach Any Goals

How many of us don’t have time in our busy lives to pause, to stop and think in a constructive positive way? To ask ourselves those big questions like “What do I really want the most?”

InnerLifeSkills Coaches have been trained to help you to find this clarity, to ask you those important questions and to give you the space to really think about the answers. Not to just give surface answers but to find what is true for you.

2. Clear milestones and measures to track

The late Stephen Covey said that if you’re not measuring with the scoreboard you’re not playing for real.

If we don’t have milestones and measures, we are not playing for real.

There’s a difference between kicking a soccer ball around in the garden and competing with the scoreboard telling you how far you are to victory.

Use coaching measures

When you are supported in establishing clear milestones and measures, you have something tangible to work towards.

But don’t worry these are not forced on you, coaching is a true partnership, you are the one leading your own process. You get to decide what types of milestones work for you and your coach helps you to gain clarity here.

Ideally, once you find the right life coach for you, you want to sign up for long term coaching, so that your coach can help you to make progress towards your long term milestones.

Also remember, to be flexible in this journey, because as you make progress you might find the need to change your milestones. Or even to change the way that you are measuring your progress.

An InnerLifeSkills Coach will completely support you in the changes that you need to make. They are there for you, without judgement or agenda. To support you in your progress.

3. Inspiration and motivation to keep you on track

The early stages of any movement towards a goal are usually the easiest. It can be wonderfully inspiring to come up with goals and to create action plans.

The rubber really hits the road when we have to implement our action plans and stick to our commitments.

That’s when having a life coach is the most important. It’s when we meet our inner obstacles like laziness, procrastination, “I’ll do it tomorrow I don’t feel like doing it today,” — this is when the InnerLifeSkills Coach is going to play a critical role in helping you to overcome these roadblocks.

Learn how to deepen commitment to goals

Remind yourself, to not let guilt get in the way of you continuing to benefit from coaching.

I say to my clients, that guilt is not allowed in our sessions. If they feel guilty about not taking actions that they committed to, they might stop coming to coaching. And I want them to attend a session when they are hitting the wall. That’s the time when coaching is going to change their lives.

So I suggest that you make yourself the same promise.

That when (not if) you hit the wall that you call an InnerLifeSkills Coach to help you. That you don’t let guilt stop your process.

Be gentle with yourself and use inspiration and motivation to get back on track, which an InnerLifeSkills Coach will be more than happy to help you with.

4. Clarity on what is most important to you

Have you ever felt the frustration, of opening a drawer that was too full, so full that you couldn’t see what you were looking for?

When our lives are very full we also can’t see clearly, we can’t see what is most important to us.

By stopping for 1 hour, and being coached to gain clarity to declutter so that we can see what we really want, should be a regular practice.

Gaining clarity on what is most important to you can be so helpful. Spending time with your coach establishing priority goals and priority actions is a way to declutter our minds and lives.

There is also something about, the coaching space, that truly facilitates deeper thinking — sometimes even more productive thinking than what we could achieve on our own.

5. The space to think creatively and intuitively

An InnerLifeSkills Coach has been trained in over 50 processes that they can guide you through, so that you have the space to think creatively and intuitively.

My elderly mother-in-law asked me the other day, “What exactly do you do?” She wanted to explain this to her friends at her retirement home. I found myself struggling for a moment, how do I explain what life coaching is and how it benefits people?

Bearing in mind that my mother-in-law doesn’t know how to SMS or use the Internet, so I needed to relate coaching to her in a way that she understood.

She is a great sports fan, so this is what I told her.

“Every top athlete has a coach that helps them to achieve more. A life coach does the same, in life. And just like an athlete must do physical exercises, a life coach helps others to do thinking exercises. These thinking exercises help people to come up with solutions that they didn’t have before.”

My mother-in-law seemed satisfied with this answer.

6. A sounding board that’s free of judgement and agenda

Everyone has an agenda it seems. It’s so wonderful to sit with someone whose only agenda is to be non-judgemental and offering a safe space for us to think and to process.

An InnerLifeSkills Coach is not going to judge you or bring their personal agenda. They’re not going to tell you what to do. They are going to help you to find your own best insights and solutions. They’re not going to comment on these with platitudes, or patronizing judgements. They are going to be there for you completely and wherever you find yourself.

Until you experience the gift of this, it’s hard to put into words how valuable it is just to have a sounding board that is free of judgement and agenda, a safe space to think and to express yourself.

7. Focus so that you can move into action and get things done

A lack of focus can hold us back. An InnerLifeSkills Coach will help you to focus. They will ask you questions that will bring you clarity. And this will help you to move into positive action — to get things done.

Learn to coach dreams to reality step 7 action

Don’t underestimate the power of just knowing that your coach is out there in the world. Someone who is waiting to hear from you in a week or so, not to police you and not judge you, but simply be there for you. Someone that you get to go and see monthly or weekly, depending on your needs, to share your progress, to share your obstacles with, and to help you to just get things done.

And not just anything but the most important actions; the actions that are going to make a difference to you in achieving your goals, sooner rather than later.

8. Positive pressure so that you stay accountable to your journey

We could all do with a little positive pressure. The pressure of accountability.

  • How many times have we broken promises to ourselves?
  • How many times have we said what we wanted to get done, only to fail and find ourselves frustrated that months have passed and we are still not where we wanted to be?

When you have an InnerLifeSkills Coach, you have someone that is there to help you to remain accountable to your own journey. You are still the one carrying the responsibility and accountability, they’re not going to push you or police you, they respect you too much for that, but they are there for you.

When you know that you are going to see your coach it helps to push you with positive pressure to do the actions that you’ve committed to. This positive pressure is very helpful.

9. Help finding your own best insights and solutions

Instead of giving you advice, which could be wrong, or a bad fit for you, an InnerLifeSkills Coach is going to help you to help yourself. This is true empowerment.

Learn to Coach well using the ILS Coaching Well

A coach is going to help you to help yourself. This is true empowerment.

At InnerLifeSkills we use the Well metaphor. Imagine that you have a beautiful well, and deep below the surface is crystal clear water. This water represents your inner wealth, your inner resources, strength, intelligence, wisdom, insights and untapped solutions.

An InnerLifeSkills Coach is trained to help you to build your inner well so that you can find and free your own best insights and solutions.

Even if you don’t think you have solutions and insights, I challenge you to discover that this isn’t true. Just because your surface mind says, “I don’t know the answers,” doesn’t mean the answers are not there. They are just deeper than the surface, and InnerLifeSkills coaching is specifically designed to help you to go deeper than the surface to find these answers.

It can be life-changing to discover your inner wealth.

10. Processes to transform your inner obstacles like fear, procrastination, self-doubt etc.

InnerLifeSkills coaching specializes in this.

If reaching our goals and dreams was easy, we all would have everything we wanted. But on the path we encounter obstacles.

There are inner obstacles and outer obstacles. Outer obstacles like time and money are significant, and coaching can help you to find solutions to overcome these obstacles, but the bigger obstacles are the inner ones.

Inner obstacles like fear, procrastination, self-doubt etc. are the ones that sabotage us. An InnerLifeSkills Coach is equipped with more than 50 processes designed to help you to transform your inner obstacles.

We want you to be free of these inner obstacles so that you can make progress and achieve your aspirations—sooner rather than later.

It can also be life-changing to overcome your inner obstacles.
